Yao from Downtown!?!?!?!?

This video has been burning up the ranks on Youtube this weekend, of the 7’5″ monster Yao Ming not only attempting a three-point shot, but draining it as the shot clock expires. It’s always amusing to see players with no business being outside the arc taking these shots when they have no other choice. It was Yao’s second successful three-pointer of his career, putting him one ahead of Shaquille O’Neal. That shot (about 10 seconds in) overshadows the somewhat exciting finish to this game, which the Rockets won 91-86 Friday.

  1. He had to do something. 😀 Yao is amazing.

I can already see it: Remember the play by the Spurs last playoffs when Tim Duncan got the ball at the three point line to get the game to overtime and he hit it? Maybe Yao will do the same sooner or later, you never know, but it would be kinda cool…

  2. He can shoot! Shot didn’t look too bad, it definitely wasn’t an all-luck shot. He should stay in the zone, tho, but a pick & pop here or there would be cool.

    • You’re right, Yao probably has the best jump-shot of anyone well over 7′ (Tim Duncan is n/a). I just can’t believe he was out in that area to begin with!
