Big Plays in the Big Easy
I should clarify that alley-oop plays do NOT count for the Daily Dunk. Every new Daily Dunk will likely be the “Dunk of the Night” at NBA.com, unless I find something I feel is better. Alley-oops are a play all their own, and is arguably the ultimate show of chemistry among NBA teammates within a single play. It could also just be the sign of a great point guard or power forward/center. Dynamic alley-oop duos around the NBA include Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler; Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett; and Kobe Bryant/LeBron James and whoever makes the pass.
Julian Wright and Rasual Butler of the New Orleans Hornets aren’t exactly the first two players that come to mind when thinking of pretty alley-oops, but watch this play from the two during Monday’s Hornets-Rockets game. Wright makes the pass to Butler, who quickly realizes he has the monstrous Dikembe Mutombo in his way and makes a nifty sky-hook-like pass back to Wright, who finishes with the flashy slam. Houston ultimately won 95-84 on the strength of a 51-37 second half, but this play was the singular highlight of the night.
