New NBA Playoff Ads: Chris Paul
Although I’ve already highlighted Dwayne Wade, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for these ads as formidable postseason players, Chris Paul of New Orleans may be the player to which we should pay the most attention. As great as Paul has been in recent regular seasons, he clearly took his game to a whole new level in his first taste of postseason play, as you can see by these 2008 splits:
He about matched or improved upon every one of those numbers except his free throws, but he more than made up for that by playing 3 more minutes and scoring 3 more points and one more rebound per game. He also cut down on his turnovers while maintaining about the same average of steals. Needless to say, he will be a force come playoff time and my mouth is watering thinking about a Lakers – Hornets Western Conference Final. Watch this ridiculous basket he makes in NBA.com’s choice for his ad:
It may look lucky, but for a player with hands like Paul’s, but he makes plays like this too consistently to give him that label.
