Baseball Tonight’s Web Gems for April 8
Wednesday night’s web gems featured some nice plays from both the infield and outfield. Stephen Drew and Carlos Peña garnered a little bit of extra attention by homering in their games, but they both make great plays nonetheless. Drew makes a diving stop and a throw from his knees that would be impossible to make for an out if anyone with decent speed was running, and Peña makes a nice foul catch right up against the Boston dugout.
Rocco Baldelli made a highlight-reel catch as he stumbles to the ground, in an otherwise forgettable night for the Red Sox. Fred Lewis makes a similar catch to Baldelli’s, which makes it a curious pick for the #1 web gem of the night.
In my opinion, the #1 play was the diving catch by Alex Gonzalez of Cincinnati. With the amount of liabilities in the field, the Reds may need Gonzalez’s glove more than they need anything else this season.
