Baseball Tonight Web Gems for April 11
Starting tomorrow, I will post the Web Gem standings from Baseball Tonight at ESPN.com, now that they will be keeping a points system to determine who made the best highlight-reel-caliber plays of the season. Today’s plays are a mixed bag. Jason Bay’s second-chance catch was disputed by Mike Scioscia as a double- which it would have been if the ball touched the right-field wall coming down- but the call stood as a catch.
Mark Reynolds’ over-the-shoulder catch was only the #4 plays but has to be the most impressive, as Reynolds is known as a very inconsistent defender. Jermaine Dye channels Aaron Rowand as the White Sox right fielder crashes into the wall for a catch. David Wright makes a good line-drive catch then a very heads-up play as he tags the third base bag to double-up Emilio Bonifacio. Brian Giles is the highlight of the night as the veteran goes all out to snag a towering pop-up in far right field.
