Baseball Tonight Web Gems for April 13
There were a couple of great team efforts and some great individual efforts as well from Monday night in the majors. The biggest defensive highlights come from the Rays’ 15-5 thumping of the New York Yankees, starting with Jason Bartlett’s diving stop of a grounder that was headed for no-mans land and Carlos Peña’s superb handling of the very tricky bounce. B.J. Upton reached #1 with his deep center field catch that makes him look like the Say Hey Kid for a new generation.
Detroit’s Brandon Inge made the top five for the third day in a row with his diving stop, but Miguel Cabrera completed the gem by making a full extension to handle the errant throw from Inge. Cardinals second baseman Brendan Ryan makes his diving stop look easy with the strike throw to first.
In relation to their respective games, Nick Markakis probably made the biggest play of the night, running a long way to rob Michael Young of extra bases in the ninth inning of a one-run game, which Baltimore ended up winning.
