Baseball Tonight Web Gems for April 20
We have a group of first-timers for 2009 in this installment of Baseball Tonight’s Web Gems, but we can rest assured at least two of these guys will be seen again at some point. Miguel Tejada kicks it off with his diving stop and throw to Lance Berkman, who deserves a little credit of his own for scooping the throw. Hanley Ramirez comes in at No.4 with his side-stepping stop of the ball and powerful throw to first from the lip of the outfield grass to catch the runner just in time.
The surprise of the group has to be Reds’ reserve outfielder Darnell McDonald, who makes a very nice running catch while covering plenty of ground in right-center. Reigning American League MVP Dustin Pedroia has his first Web Gem of the season with a diving stop up the middle. He makes these kinds of plays often, so I expect him to make the Web Gems many more times.
Third baseman Andy LaRoche of the Pittsburgh Pirates tops the list because he makes not one, but two dazzling infield plays. The first is the charge-and-throw to get out a bunting runner. The second is a diving stop and quick throw to second to help start a double play. The kid has some talent, most of which we have yet to really see.Vodpod videos no longer available.
