Baseball Tonight Web Gems for May 3rd

Rick Ankiel continued his superb defensive season with a very nice running catch in center field Sunday. He comes in at No.5 on the Sunday night edition of Baseball Tonight’s Web Gems.

The Oakland Athletics’ Ryan Sweeney put himself on the map with his spectacular robbery of a home run just a couple of days ago. He makes a different kind of catch this time, one of the running and diving kind.

Kansas City’s David DeJesus comes in at No.3 with a sliding catch just into foul territory. That’s his first appearance on the web gems this season.

Right fielder Jayson Werth of Philadelphia proves a glove is not needed to make web gems with his powerful throw to home plate to gun down a runner. That it was a tie game in the sixth inning at the time makes this throw all the more spectacular.

Nationals second baseman Anderson Hernandez tops ’em all with his diving stop and throw to first. Impressive for the kid to make the No.1 play on his first time making the web gems.

Web Gems Points Leader: Brandon Inge, 22
